I shouldn’t be alive- A narrow escape before partition of India (Story)
My Nana ji (Father of my mother) had been at officer grade in government press at Allahabad, this event happened with one of his known way back in 1944 before partition of India in Lahore.
His name was Abdul and before division of India he was the resident of Pakistan he use to be the driver of car in some British Firm but use to drive car personally also as adding another string in his earning bow.
It was the night of august when he faces this danger. Abdul was driving back home after finishing his regular work, on his way he saw one lady in Burkha (Habilment of pardah in Muslims) stopping him. It was around 9.30 at night when he saw her.
Abdul stopped and asked what happened lady?
She replied in very cold voice to take her to a specific colony situated on the outer boundary of the city .Abdul straight away said no when she asked why then he said that too much petrol will be consumed and he will not get any passenger while coming back so it will take lots of time and fuel and the price will be too high.
That lady without uttering a single word takes out a gold coin with substantial weight and placed it on the hand of Abdul and sit on the backseat quietly.
Abdul thought that there were many mansions and costly houses in that particular area so she must belong to some reputed and rich family so he started driving.
She directed him to go from a specific route where Adul saw another woman in green saree indicating him to stop he wanted to avoid her but she almost stand at the middle of the road Abdul was bound to stop. She also asked her to take to that way the first lady was going. Abdul said that his car is already reserved but she almost started pleading as it was around 9.45 at night and she probably get no other medium of transport but Abdul told that the address she want to go he can drop her only after dropping the burkha girl while his way back to his home, she agreed.
Finally Abdul asked the lady at the backseat that should they take her with them after a brief silent she nodded in form of yes and they take her with him.
When he reached that area he uttered where to stop madam but the lady at the back seat remain silent, after a while he reached at the gate of one colony and asked should I stop madam she almost snored no, sometime that he reached another gate and asked the same question but answer was same no. Soon they had crossed that last area of the city inhabited by humans and car was now going towards the jungle
Abdul become restless and asked in firm voice Where the hell you want to go but the women remain silent Abdul said I am stopping the car suddenly her growled in changed voice No.
The voice was so cold and firm but yet feminine now Abdul become suspicious he tried to see in the mirror but failed to get any hint of her face as the area of jungle started Abduls mind was busy in correlating the events .. a lonely girl at that time of night fearlessly going with a man alone giving him gold coin now crossing into the area of jungle all of a sudden he submerged into his own sweat and push on the break.
She again shouted and this time in the mixed voice of man and women Chalo (go)
Abdul without any second thinking rushed out of the car and opened the backdoor asking the lady to come out of the car that girl in saree was standing two steps back of Abdul.
When she took her step out of the car Aduls mind goes to visit his ancestors, her heels were reversed Abdul was standing like a wooden tomb when she came out and stand in front of him. Abdul silently stepped back and came close to that saree girl and bend a little and murmured into her ear…. Have you Watched her feet in a shacking voice
Have you watched mine she smirked back
Suddenly Abdul went cold while looking downwards her feet were also turned into the opposite direction.
The first girl thrown away her burkha , her face was pale and her lips were looking thirsty Abdul tried to rushed away to the driving seat but the way was blocked by the other women her structure was also changed she was looking dreadful and horrific.
Abdul took to his heels and ran away in his full pace but couldn’t matched up with their pace both of them had surrounded Abdul and he was sensing his end near abruptly the season changed and the lightning shines which brings an old saying of the great grandfather of Abdul Beta agar kisi Chudail ya buri roof se saamna ho jaye to nange ho jana (Son if you ever encountered a chudail or any evil spirit go nude) Abdul had started to tore away his clothes and in a jiffy he become nude to his surprise now both of the girls were vanished and now he can only hear their horrible voices. He was haunted by the environment so much that he derived nude until he reached the civilization. It was a narrow escape.
