Nishi(Bengal) the night hunters

Are the ghosts who cry peoples name in the dead of night and lead them away, never to be seen. Nishis are usually resides on isolated pathways and their voice is similar to that of owl what they do with the humans is still a mystery but if you turned back on their call it will be fairly dangerous for you, if you ignore their call thrice and walk away then they can’t harm you in any way.

Although nothing exactly is known about them but it is said that it’s a cult of half alive entities who used to worship owl as an embodiment of darkness and live in forests.
The attributes of Nishis are-

•          They only hunt at night specifically in between 12 to 3 when the darkest hour is on play.
•          They have tall and strong body with big and dense hairs all over
•          They are cannibals
•          According to some folktales they can fly for small distances
•          They have big and shiny eyes and they can see very well in the dark
•          They usually hunt the passengers who forget their path in forests and dense wood parts
•          They are very afraid of sharp light and fire.
•          Their height is around 7 to 9 feet and they can run very fast.
•          Their voice is somewhat owls voice and clearly sounded as humans voice.

Another folktale says that Nishis are very old cults dated way back to pre-independence times who refuse to come to urban areas and stayed back in jungles and with the passage of time and due to their odd living life style they develop strange biological changes and gained super human strength and adverse became cannibal.

Fortune favors the brave (Story)

This incident happened with Vinod who was a scout guide in his school. This episode took place when he was coming back to his village which was near Masturi (Madhya Pradesh) as the distance from the bus stop to his village was around 4kms and while he reached at night he had to wait for a substantial period of time for any means of transport.
It was the month of December and the environment was chilled with cold breezes and blurred with fog which was denser in the rural areas.
Being a scout student Vinod was use to walk over long distance quite regularly so after waiting for an hour for transport he ultimately decided to walk instead of wasting his time.
As he walked hardly for half a kilometer he suddenly sensed increase in the shouting of owls around him. He was born in this village and had a bit of an idea about that place and soon he realized that it was his mistake to come alone to this place at this dark hour of night but now as he had come so far there was no use of going back to bus stand so somehow he made his mind firm and continued strolling.
After another half kilometer he realized that someone called his name from the back in growling voice but Vinod ignored that call and keeps on walking. The breez become more sever and the cold increases, the environment was so silent that Vinod could hear the sound of his footsteps clearly. Vinooodddee someone growled again from his back and this time the voice was even louder.Vinod all of a sudden came to halt but somewhere in his mind there was the warning by his grandmother Never turn back in the night when someone calls you from behind by your name he paused there for a moment and started walking again with more pace towards his village. After he crossed the half way mark he came to realize that someone else is walking right behind him as he could hear the clear footsteps along with the creeping sound of leaves and bushes behind him. He was stunned with fear but he  was a strong hearted person and anyhow manage to control his nerves and walk straight forward without turning back.
Soon the lights started to come in his vision and he became a little relaxed having the sight of the light when two things happen at the same time suddenly, an owl came shouting at his face and someone called his name again, Vinod fell to the trap and he forced to turn back ……….
He was amazed as what he saw there was a giant creature somewhat man like creature with 7 feet tall and muscular body ,his face was not visible due to fog but his nails were shining in that full moon night and his intentions were very clear he wanted to hunt down Vinod. Vinod srung up on his feet all of a sudden and started running with his full strength and energy but that creature felt to be flyed over his head and come and stand right in front of him, Vinod was standstill his senses had left him and that creature slashes his claw on his chest sever scratches were made Vinod fell on ground and his luggage fell down and as that creature  started coming towards him Vinod noticed his eyes were green ,he came back to his senses and decided to take the bull by the horns. He extended his hand to take a stone but he by mistake grabbed a sun flair which had fell out of his bag he was out of wits so he lit the sun flair with his lighter and thrown it straight to that creature. Ggrrraaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh a big growled like an owl had shouted with human’s voice had echoed the environment as sharp light had made him blind for few moments. Vinod spotted the alkalis heel and started throwing one signal flair after the other on him he can’t withstand this attack and runaway into the dense forest.
Vinod started running towards the village with one hand holding the burning signal flair and other hand covering the scratches on his chest.
As he saw the first house he dashed the door and started knocking it furiously when the door was opened the owner was shocked at Vinods position he was at once given some first aid treatment and inform his family.
It take over a week for Vinod to get back to his normal self but he is probably the only person who has seen the Nishi and escape alive known to mankind.
